MANILA, Philippines — Sara Duterte-Carpio defended her father from allegations that he was threatening to set up a revolutionary government because of his insecurity and paranoia.

“How can he be insecure when he is the president? When you are the president, there is nothing that will make you feel insecure — not survey results or a person like Trillanes or a power-hungry group called Tindig Pilipinas,” said the Davao mayor on Sunday.

Last Saturday, cause-oriented group Tindig Pilipinas assailed President Rodrigo Duterte after he threatened to declare a revolutionary government that would last “until the end of my term” if destabilization moves by his critics would turn into chaos. He also said he would “arrest all of you and we can go to a full-scale war against the Reds.”

Tindig Pilipinas said these statements were a sign that Duterte was already “losing his grip” and that “only a paranoid and insecure man afraid of losing power will rationalize the need to impose a revolutionary government upon the people.”

In an event called “Pirma, Hindi Porma,” held outside the University of the Philippines-Diliman’s Palma Hall last Saturday, Tindig Pilipinas and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV called on the President to sign bank waivers to prove that he had no hidden wealth and stop his alleged paranoia over destabilization plots and the witch-hunt of government critics.

But according to Sara, “The threat of destabilization is as real as terrorism.”

“All his (President Duterte’s) destabilization claims are from intel reports and reliable sources from inside the offices of the people identified with the opposition,” the mayor added.

Last Friday, the chief executive claimed that communist rebels, leaders from the elite, and the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency were allegedly behind moves to destabilize his administration.

Duterte also claimed earlier that the “Reds” and the “Yellows” or the communists and the Liberal Party were planning together to have him ousted.
