MANILA — Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal is now in stable condition. This was according to Dr. Rene Josef Bullecer, one of the attending physicians after the cardinal was rushed to the Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu City last Wednesday due to Cardiopulmonary Arrest caused by Sepsis or massive infection in the blood.
“Cardinal Vidal now on a stable condition but still in the ICU, after he was rushed to the hospital early morning of Wednesday after complaining of mild fever and breathing difficulties. He nearly suffered cardiopulmonary arrest due to infections in the blood…” the doctor said in an interview over Church-run Radyo Veritas on Friday.
He gave assurances the Catholic prelate is now better after being in critical condition when he was brought to the hospital last October 11.
The 86-year-old Cardinal is still in the intensive care unit (ICU) as doctors continue to monitor his condition.
“He just passed the most crucial stage, though still in the ICU but we have signs of improvements compared to yesterday wherein he was completely unresponsive…” Bullecer said.
He suffered mild stroke in September 2013 and has been in and out of the hospital in 2014 due to pneumonia.
With this, the doctor asked the faithful to pray for the immediate recovery of Archbishop Emeritus of Cebu.
Vidal has served as the head of the Archbishop of Cebu for 29 years before he retired in 2011. He is staying at the Sto. Niño Village in Cebu City.
He is one of the four Cardinals of the country, aside from Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, Archbishop Orlando Cardinal Quevedo, and Manila Archbishop Emeritus Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales.
