MANILA – A Chinese national was shot dead in an ambush by motorcycle-riding gunmen at the corner of EDSA and Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City Saturday night.

The victim, who was driving a white SUV, tried to flee from his attackers, but the vehicle crashed into an electric post.

Before the incident, a witness saw a man alight from the SUV. Later, two motorcycles, one of which had a woman back rider, passed by.

Suddenly, one man on one of the motorbikes took out a gun, put on his helmet and approached the SUV.

The witness said two policemen at a nearby detachment failed to stop the shooting as things happened fast, said the witness. The two policemen gave chase after the shooting, but did not catch the gunmen.

The SUV driver, identified as Zhizhu Wa, a Chinese national, was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.

Police recovered the victim’s personal items: a cellphone and a VIP card in one casino.

Probers also recovered 26 bullet shells from the crime scene.
