At high noon Friday, the military fighting the holdout terrorist fighters in the Islamic City of Marawi announced that they have retaken Masiu Bridge from the hands of the Maute Group.
Masiu in Barangay Raya Madaya is the last bridge at Marawi still in enemy control, the earlier ones being Mapandi or Balo-i Bridge, and the Banggolo or Bayabao Bridge.
Masiu bridge was promptly taken over by the jihadist terrorists when hostilities broke out on May 23.
This bridge is the main access way to the city, held for months by as many as 700-some radical fighters.
After the whittling systematic offensives by government forces, the objective of seeing the jihadist crushed with finality could be near, military spokesmen say.
