ILOILO CITY – Deflecting insinuations that the Mayor of Iloilo City, Jed Mabilog, made a pile from dealing in illegal drugs, his brother gave News5 a tour of the Mabilog house that had been described by President Rodrigo Duterte as quite a mansion.

The mayor’s brother, Atty. JV Mabilog, explained that whatever assets that Jed Mabilog presently accounts for were the fruits of legitimate earnings and investments, contrary to ugly talk about him engaging in or providing protection to the drug trade.

The three-storey house stands inside the family’s gated ancestral compound.

Mayor Jed Mabilog was in Japan for a speaking engagement, but JV Mabilog opened the doors of the mayor’s home.

The residence was completed in 2013, at a total estimated cost of PhP6.7 million, JV disclosed, and most of the money for building the house came from the mayor’s wife – Vicky – who worked as an executive at a Canadian oil company.

JV also pointed out that his brother, the mayor, was an accomplished businessman before he ventured into politics.

The house has four rooms – one for each of Jed and Vicky’s two kids – a master’s bedroom and one for the guests.

The kitchen, dining and living rooms are on the second floor, while the bedrooms are on the topmost level.

In short, it’s what the family considers a normal house, but which President Duterte calls a palace.
