MANILA, Philippines — A policeman and his “asset,” or informer, were gunned down as they met Tuesday night in Binondo, Manila.

Police Officer 1 Marmmy Montemayor and the still unidentified asset were shot at Gate 64, Parola Compound by a lone gunman, also unidentified, who fled on a motorcycle.

The informant was killed immediately while the policeman died at a hospital where he was rushed.

A bystander who was wounded in the incident was also taken to the Jose Reyes Hospital.

Three .45 caliber shells and a slug were recovered at the crime scene.

Investigators surmised that the killer may have been affected by the Manila police’s anti-drug operations and retaliated when he learned of the meeting between Montemayor and his asset.
