PASIG CITY – A young man figured in a commotion at a restaurant here at the weekend and, when police came around to intervene, a sachet of suspected cocaine fell out of his pocket.
Police Senior Supt. Orlando Yebra disclosed that, on further checking, the law enforcers fished out eight more sachets of the white substance. “It was during the course of the investigation that followed when it came to light that our suspect, Maynard Ang, had a pending drug delivery to transact, through a Grab delivery rider, Elison Hernandez.”
When collared, Hernandez had in his possession some 28 grams of suspected cocaine. The 37 grams intercepted in this incident, counting the drugs found on Ang, had an estimated street value of PhP400,000.
The Grab motorcycle used in the delivery was confiscated as a result.
Ang was allegedly dealing with patrons from prominent families as well as those with political clout, and friends who are well-to-do.
Police said that there is no known cocaine laboratory, so the drug must have been sourced from abroad.
For his part, Hernandez stuck to his claim that he never knew the stuff he was delivering was illegal drugs. In this case, he explained, the stuff was wrapped as a gift package.
