MANILA – Isabela, Northern Aurora, and Southern Cagayan are now under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1, as Tropical Depression Jolina was spotted 560 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Signal No. 1 meant there could be slight damage to some houses of very light materials or makeshift structures in exposed communities.

Sea travel could be cancelled, with wave heights from 1.25 to 4 meters.

Jolina was packing maximum winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of 60 kilometers per hour, and was moving west to northwest at 17 kilometers per hour.

Based on its latest track, it could intensify into a tropical storm or a severe tropical storm within the next 24 hours.

PAGASA added that Signal No. 1 could also be raised over Quirino, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Kalinga, and Northern Cagayan on Thursday night.

Jolina was expected to make landfall in Northern Luzon late Friday or early Saturday, and would pass the Cagayan, Cordillera, and Ilocos regions.

PAGASA warned of possible landslides, as well as flashfloods in low-lying areas, in Northern Luzon. Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Visayas would experience light to moderate and occassionally heavy rains.

Sea travel will also be risky over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon until the weekend.

Jolina was expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Sunday.
