MANILA, Philippines – Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Emmanuel Piñol confirmed reports that the avian flu that started in Pampanga had spread to two towns in Nueva Ecija.
“Ito pong official confirmation is a result of a series of laboratory tests conducted following the receipt of earlier reports from the farmers themselves and the officials of Nueva Ecija,” Piñol said.
The latest outbreak took place in a chicken layer farm in Brgy. San Roque, San Isidro and in a quail farm in Brgy. Imbunia, Jaen.
A one-kilometer quarantine radius area around the affected farms has already been declared to prevent the outbreak from further spreading, according to the DA chief.
He said the strain found in the Nueva Ecjija poultry farms was similar to that discovered in San Luis, Pampanga.
“Well as usual as in the previous case, ‘yon pong andoon sa Nueva Ecija would still be the same strain as in San Luis, H5. Hindi pa po natin ma-determine ‘yong N, ‘yong N strain pero type H5. Malalaman po natin ‘yong resulta ng test sa Australia within a week,” said Piñol.
