MANILA – Some senators who attended the opening of the second session of the 17th Congress Monday morning brought along their spouses or partners.

Senate President Koko Pimentel, who is known to be estranged from his wife, brought along a woman named Kathryn Yu, and introduced her as a partner.

Yu explained later that she is the one who manages the Pimentels’ law firm (the Senate chief’s father and namesake, Aquilino Pimentel Jr., was once also a Senate President, law school dean and a noted lawyer), and she frequently accompanies the younger Pimentel to functions. She is also introduced as a partner, but is apparently not in a relationship with the Senate President, but the family’s law firm partner.

Like the Pimentels, Kathryn said she is also from Marikina, and an aunt was a classmate of Senator Pimentel’s sister, Atty. Gwen Pimentel.

Sen. Francis Escudero was with wife Heart Evangelista. The actress wore a white gown.

Sen. Juan Edgardo Angara’s wife Tootsy wore a white dress that she said was the one she wore during her junior prom.

Senators JV Ejercito, Joel Villanueva and Nancy Binay also brought along their respective spouses: Gladys Villanueva, Hyacinth Lotuaco Ejercito and Jose Benjamin Angeles.

Sen. Bam Aquino had an extra guest: his toddler daughter Aurora.
