MANILA, Philippines — With a net worth of more than P252 million, Associate Justice Francis Jardeleza remains the wealthiest member of the Supreme Court, according to a summary of the statements of assets, liabilities and net worth as of December 31, 2016 filed by the magistrates.

Jardeleza’s joint filing showed a P2.483 million increase in his wealth from 2015.

Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, on the other hand, is the “poorest” of the lot with a net worth of just shy of P2.5 million and the only one with less than P10 million to his name.

The summary of the justices’ SALNs was released Friday.

A distant second to Jardeleza was Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo with a net worth of P138.9 million — P3,839,486.34 more than the previous year — followed by Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, who listed a net worth of P121.5 million.

The three were the only justices with more than P100 million to their name.

Both Jardeleza and Caguioa also had no liabilities.

In contrast, Leonen listed liabilities of P3,629,741.18 from total assets of P6,114,953.10, although his net worth of P2,483,230.14 was P220,045.47 more than in 2015

Two other justices also listed zero liability — Presbitero Velasco Jr., who listed a net worth of P17.753 million, and Estela Perlas-Bernabe, who gave a net worth of P78.298 million.

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, on the other hand, was the 11th wealthiest magistrate with a net worth of P24,249,941.14, up P2,076,455.76 from 2015.

The justices who registered the largest increase in their wealth were Lucas Bersamin, who is richer by P12.139 million, Diosdado Peralta whose worth increased by P4.466 million, and Caguioa, by P4.375 million.

Not in the list is newly appointed Justices Andres Reyes Jr., who replaced Bienvenido Reyes.
