De Castro Sereno tension at SC
July, 2017 News5 video grab reporting on the alleged simmering tension between Supreme Court Associate Justice Teresita de Castro and Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Teresita de Castro doesn’t seem to see eye-to-eye with Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno on certain matters in the judiciary.

De Castro wishes to take up four issues with the en banc, among which is the seeming lack of urgency in addressing some vacancies in the judiciary that have been pending for some time, like the position of Deputy Clerk of Court and of the Chief Attorney, and two Assistant Court Administrators that have been vacant since May 15, 2013 and January 10.

The vacancy in one Assistant Court Administrator was posted only on October 24, 2016.

De Castro also questioned the appointment of Atty. Brenda Jay Mendoza to head the Philippine Mediation Center. The appointment, De Castro claimed, was submitted to the two other Senior Associate Justices only. She wants the appointment to be reviewed.
