MANILA, Philippines – Leni Lugaw, the fake VP, Reyna ng Dilawan.

If social media assaults were daggers, then Vice President Leni Robredo could have already perished as she is evidently among the country’s most attacked public officials in the netizen world.

But apparently, the online disgust against Robredo isn’t shared by most Filipinos at least based on the latest survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

The SWS’ June 23-26 polls found 60 percent of respondents satisfied with Robredo’s performance, while 24 percent were dissatisfied, resulting in a +36 net satisfaction rating.

The Vice President’s net score from last month’s survey increased 10 percentage points from +26 in a poll conducted last March when 53 percent said they were satisfied with her performance, contrary to the opinion of 27 percent of the respondents.

The June survey used face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults nationwide. It had a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3 percentage points for national percentages.

Last April, Robredo said she had already become immune to harsh criticisms via social media because it appeared that most if not all of the online attacks against her were lies.

“Of course, that is not to say na, hindi importante iyong lahat ng bashings, kasi meron namang criticisms na constructive, na I think kaming mga public officials should still be in touch with,” said Robredo

[Of course, that is not to say that bashings are not important because there are also criticisms that are constructive that I think public officials like us should be in touch with.]

Pero halimbawa iyong sa akin, parang 100 percent yata kasinungalingan. So bakit ko siya pag-aaksayan ng panahon?” she added.

[But in my case, it seems that 100 percent of the criticisms are all lies. So why should I waste time on these bashings?]

According to Robredo, she’s no longer affected by online below-the-belt criticisms especially when she goes to communities where the country’s poorest of the poor live and help them address their problems.

Pag bumababa kami, naririnig mo iyong mga kuwento noong mga mahihirap, iyong mga kausap mo wala naman kaalam-alam sa nangyayari sa Facebook [When we go down, we hear the stories of the poor and those who talked to don’t know what’s happening on Facebook],” she said.
