MANILA, Philippines – Five people, including a senior citizen, died in separate shooting incidents in Quezon City over the weekend.
The first fatality, only known as alias “Bay,” was found lying bloodied on a pavement after he was repeatedly shot early Sunday at the corner of Maharlika Street and Elliptical Road in Quezon City.
Witnesses saw Bay standing on the road and eating noodles when he was approached by a male assailant, who walked away and boarded a taxi after shooting down the victim.
In the city’s Barangay Bagong Pag-asa, Johnny de Leon, Arnold Criste, an elderly person, and another man, who remains unidentified, also died Sunday after policemen raided De Leon’s residence.
Authorities said they were supposed to serve an arrest warrant to De Leon, who was accused of illegal possession of firearms, but he reportedly fought back and shot at Police Officer 1 Vennette Ladoc even before the raiding team was able to enter his house.
Ladoc’s bullet-proof vest was hit prompting authorities to shoot back at De Leon, which killed him and the two others.
De Leon was allegedly among the top drug lords in Region 2, who used to be based in Santiago City, Isabela.
Recovered from the crime scene were a .45-caliber gun, six sachets believed to contain shabu, and a bankbook containing millions of pesos worth of deposit.
On Saturday, another man, who remains unidentified, was also found dead on Commonwealth Avenue with his body full of gunshot wounds.
Barangay Kagawad Lourdes Luna said that before discovering the victim’s remains, residents heard the sound of an approaching motorcycle followed by gunshots.
