MANILA, Philippines — A barangay captain in Caloocan City was gunned down along a busy street Wednesday afternoon with the crime captured by a closed circuit television camera.
The footage showed two men on a motorcycle idling outside a branch of a fast-food chain along 9th Avenue around 5:30 p.m. as if waiting for someone.
The motorcycle turned onto the thoroughfare, stopping behind a man in a white T-shirt who the pillion rider then ran up to and shot. As the killers fled, the gunman again fired on the already fallen victim, identified as Barangay 106 chairman Francisco “Antet” Guevarra, 53.
Guevarra was declared dead on arrival at a hospital from three wounds, including to the head, from a .45 caliber pistol.
Barangay 106 councilman Randy Palon said Guevarra may have been a victim of mistaken identity, describing the slain official as a “good person” who had served their community starting from when he was a member of the Sangguniang Kabataan, or youth council.
