BIR files tax evasion raps vs QC councilor, 2 food firms

MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed tax evasion complaints with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) star Franz Pumaren and his company and two food businesses on Tuesday, July 11.

According to the agency, Pumaren’s real estate company, All Best Chodvale Development Incorporated, allegedly evaded taxes worth P20.45 million in 2009.

Pumaren, now a Quezon City third district councilor, previously played for the San Miguel Beermen and TnT KaTropa. He is the former coach of the De La Salle Green Archers and Adamson Falcons.

Restaurant Bistro Italiano and food court business Cebu Fiesta also allegedly failed to pay their taxes.

Bistro Italiano had a tax liability of close to P4.3 million in 2007 while Cebu Fiesta had a tax liability of almost P8 million in 2008, according to the BIR.

Cebu Fiesta is ran by the Cebu Fiesta Island of the South Corp. with Dennis H. Tia as president.

Meanwhile, the Bistro Italiano Corporation is connected with several restaurants such as TGI Friday’s, Italliani’s, Fish & Co., Bulgogi Brothers, Krazy Garlik, and Buffalo Wild Wings.

Its chairman is William A. Stelton while the president is Jean Paul Manuud.
