MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Thursday night raised to 7 the intensity of the earthquake that was felt in Ormoc City and Kananga town in Leyte province.
Phivolcs increased the tremor’s severity after receiving reports of significant damage to infrastructures as well as incidents of landslides in the two areas.
The institute had recorded at least 72 aftershocks following the magnitude 6.5 temblor that occurred at 4:03 p.m. and caused a three-story building in Kananga to collapse, killing a man from Ormoc and hurting at least 20 people.
