MANILA – The country’s aviation regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, has gotten a thumbs-up from the just-concluded International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) conducted from May 30 to June 8 2017.
The ICVM is an on-site activity during which an ICAO team of subject matter experts collects and assesses evidence on whether the covered State has implemented corrective action (or mitigating measures for significant safety concerns) to address previously identified findings. ICAO validates the collected evidence and information.
ICVM team leader Jean Paul de Villeneuve and team member Michiel Vreedenburgh told CAAP officials at Thursday’s exit briefing that they were satisfied that corrective actions taken by CAAP comply with international safety standards.
The ICAO ICVM audit team said CAAP garnered 64.6% effective implementation score, which is above the 60% ICAO benchmark for safety oversight system.
Attendees at the briefing were led by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for Aviation Capt. Manuel Antonio “Skee” Tamayo, and CAAP Director General Capt Jim C. Sydiongco.
Top CAAP aviation officials Assistant Director General II FSIS Capt. Donaldo A. Mendoza and Executive Assistant Capt. Nestor Pasano joined the exit briefing together with MIAA GM Ed Monreal and OTS Administrator Art M. Evangelista.
