MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau warned of possible flashfloods and landslides from heavy rains a low pressure area off Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental is expected to dump in the Visayas and Mindanao, as well as Luzon’s Mimaropa region on Friday.

The LPA, which is embedded in the Intertropical Convergence Zone, the area near the equator where air masses from the north and south meet, was last tracked 35 kilometers northeast of Dumagute at 4 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

“Cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides will be experienced over Visayas and the regions of Mimaropa, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao and Zamboanga Peninsula,” Pagasa said.

“Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms (are) expected over the rest of Mindanao, Bicol Region and the southern part of Quezon province. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon,” it added.
