MANILA, Philippines – The House of Representatives has ratified the bicameral report extending the validity of Philippine passports to 10 years from the present five years.

The extension of the passport validity aims to conform to international best practices in the issuance of the document.

This will also ease the burden of the overseas Filipino workers, seafarers, businesspersons and travelers from having to renew their passports every five years, which is deemed too short a period.

Under the proposal, regular passports would be be valid for a period of 10 years. Those 18 years old and under, however, shall be issued passports with a five-year validity.
