The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is scrambling to issue the order for disbursing the P6.9 billion refund from the electricity distribution utility Meralco to its customers, corresponding to shaving off P0.75 per kilowatt-hour over a three-month period.

But, even so, there is a slew of petitions for rate increases before ERC.

TRANSCO, the electricity transmission company is seeking a P0.22 feed-in tariff allowance from its prevailing P 0.12 per kilowatt-hour, partly to support its incentive to developers of green or renewable energy supply.

The National Power Corporation is also asking for a hike in the so-called universal charge for missionary electrification, or the fund for supporting the provision of electricity to remote areas and islands not readily served by the established electricity grids.

The National Grid Corporation, in turn, is asking for an incremental charge to address expenses incurred in rehabilitating grid assets damaged by natural and man-made calamities.

The ERC said it is studying the petitions and assured that any decision for the incremental adjustments won’t be lumped all in one throw so as not to unduly inconvenience electricity consumers.
