MANILA, Philippines – Jail authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle P11 million worth of crystal meth or shabu into the Dumaguete City Jail during the weekend.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology said the contraband was in four packets stuffed inside young coconuts or “buko” delivered to the jail together with fruit cocktail and milk – ingredients for the popular refreshment halo-halo – on Sunday by two still unidentified men.
But jail guards became suspicious when they noticed that six of the 30 coconuts appeared to had been drained, prompting them to open these, Chief Inspetor Prizel Arevalo, the warden, said.
The find was the second in the Dumaguete jail since guards found 150 grams of shabu, worth P11 million, three months ago.
