SAN ISIDRO, Nueva Ecija — An elderly couple who had turned to selling jewelry after retiring from teaching were stabbed dead inside their home Thursday night in what police believe was a robbery.
Police investigators quoted neighbors of the Matias couple, Eusebio, 69, and Sobrina, 65, as saying the two were entertaining visitors — a man and a woman — in their home in Purok 6, Barangay Ssan Roque in San Isidro.
In fact, Eusebio bought some rice porridge at a nearby store for their guests.
However, after a few minutes they heard Eusebio shouting his wife’s name and then the unidentified guests flee in a white car.
Investigators said a shoulder bag in which Sobrina kept the jewelry she sold was found empty.
