CLARIN, BOHOL – A state of calamity is declared in the municipality of Clarin in Bohol, as the government security apparatus continued its mop-up campaign to neutralize elements of the infamous Abu Sayyaf Group that had infiltrated the province of Bohol and established their staging base here some two weeks.

Elsewhere, a stash of bomb-making paraphernalia was uncovered at a rented apartment on Panglao Island where a couple of the bandits had holed up on April 17.

A police officer, Superintendent Maria Christina Nobleza, was implicated and apprehended at the weekend over her connections to the terrorists.

A search in the apartment she was sharing with her ASG boyfriend, Renierlo Dongon and several others, yielded C4 explosives, blasting caps, detonating cord, and bomb-making kits blasting cap, blasting cap kit were found at Barangay Looc, Panglao.

Meanwhile, the towns of Clarin and Inabanga are peppered with security checkpoints manned by elements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP).

Authorities have been actively distributing primers to guide the general public on how to conduct themselves in the midst of the tense situation and dissipate apprehension and panic.

Nobleza and Dongon had checked in posing as vacationing tourists.
