MANILA, Philippines — The 220-meter, P1.5-billion pedestrian bridge Runway Manila, which connects the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 to Newport City in Pasay City, was officially opened to the public Tuesday evening.
Runway Manila, designed by architects Juan Seriña Jr. and Raymond Hernandez, is the country’s first pedestrian bridge with moving walkways.
The air-conditioned bridge can accommodate 2,000 persons at any time, allowing them to cross the distance between the airport and Newport City in just a few minutes.
The undertaking is a partnership between the Departments of Public Works and Highways, Transportation, and the Alliance Global Group Inc.
Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said the project proves what can be done with political will and the partnership of the private sector.
Runway Manila is expected to further ease traffic congestion around NAIA T3, which handles some 13 million international passengers yearly.
