The already problem-plagued MRT3 southbound service on Friday afternoon lurched to a stop at around 1:40 p.m. when smoke suddenly issued from the power supply regulator circuit board underneath a passenger seat between the Kamuning-GMA and Cubao Aurora stations.

The incident occurred at the middle car.

Passengers were alarmed after observing electrical sparks underneath the seat, followed by white smoke and sharp burning smell.

The train driver stopped the train after the anunciator components on his dashboard indicated an electrical fault, and he quickly grabbed a fire extinguisher when he realized that the middle car was enveloped in smoke.

Hundreds of passengers were inconvenienced by the service interruption. The major problem being how to get an alternative ride to arrive at their destinations on time.

MRT management managed to call a fire truck equipped with a ladder to facilitate fire fighting response that prevented the incident from becoming a full-blown fire.
