The NU Bulldogs and the Ateneo Blue Eagles posted lopsided wins to tip off UAAP Season 80 on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Bulldogs notched an 86-69 triumph over the UE Red Warriors while the Blue Eagles romped past the Adamson Falcons, 85-65.

Dave Yu scored 14 points and eight boards to lead NU which established a 17-point lead and was on the driver’s seat from start to finish.

The result handed new coach Jamike Jarin, who transferred from San Beda which he steered to an NCAA title last year, a win in his Bulldogs debut.

Meanwhile, Ateneo, last season’s runner-up, stamped its class after the double-double performances of Thirdy Ravena and Chiz Ikeh propelled the Blue Eagles to a dominant win against the Falcons.

Ravena scored 20 points and 10 rebounds while Ikeh tallied 18 points 17 rebounds in a game where Ateneo’s biggest lead stood at 22 points.
