MANILA – The City of Makati has donated new school uniforms, school supplies and food packs for thousands of schoolchildren displaced in Marawi, where a five-month siege last year destroyed many public schools and houses.

Mayor Abby Binay last week signed the deed of donation and formally turned over the supplies to Education Secretary Leonor Briones in a simple ceremony on Thursday at Makati City Hall.

The donation was authorized by City Council Resolution No. 2018-004.

The donated items include 2,500 food packs, 5,000 new pairs of school shoes, and over 10,000 sets of new school uniforms for boys and girls in the elementary and secondary schools of the war-ravaged city in Mindanao.
